Automatic batch determination in goods issue in case no batch specified in WMMBXY idoc

Sirs/Madams,

Would you please help with the following issue, which I couldn't find an answer to though I quess this is a simple yes-or-no question.

We currently use WMMBXY idoc to post scrap from stock with 551 movement type for batch managed materials. We receive the material, batch and quantity etc. from external system. We had no problems as the batch number was constant for all materials, but now we have a new requirement to determine batch automatically as some materials may have another batch code.

Having a manual batch determination procedure in mind (MBC1 for 551 movement type) I recklessly thought that not to populate batch in WMMBXY at all in order it to be determined automatically (like it works in MIGO or MB1A) will simply work, but after a few tests I see idoc will eventually end up with an “Enter batch” error.

Now, after lots of tests and tons of various sources/notes read I can’t neither confirm that it’s possible (without any changes to the code of course) nor have a disclaimer that it’s impossible.

As far as I understand, WMMBXY is normally processed by L_IDOC_INPUT_WMMBXY, which is calling MB_CREATE_GOODS_MOVEMENT and there is no possibility to determine batch in this FM, but probably VB_BATCH_DETERMINATION may be called somewhere in between and WMMBXY has this hidden possibility?
